Red Varietals & White Varietals
-
Nebbiolo (Red)
Nebbiolo produces lightly-colored red wines which can be highly tannic in youth with scents of tar and roses. As they age, the wines take on a characteristic brick-orange hue at the rim of the glass and mature to reveal other aromas and flavors such as violets, tar, wild herbs, cherries, raspberries, truffles, tobacco, and prunes.
-
Cabernet Franc (Red)
Cabernet Franc is lighter than your typical Cabernet Sauvignon, taking on a bright pale red hue that contributes finesse and lends a peppery perfume. Cabernet Franc tends to have a more pronounced perfume with notes of raspberries, blackcurrants, violets and graphite.
-
Petit Verdot (Red)
A variety of red wine typically used in classic Bordeaux blend. It ripens much later than other Bordeaux varieties, and when it does ripen it adds tannin, color and flavor, in small amounts to any blend. It contains strong tones of violet and leather as the wine matures.
-
Merlot (Red)
Merlot grapes produce a dry, medium- to full-bodied wine with moderate acidity, moderate to high alcohol, and soft but present tannins. Known for its soft, sensual texture and approachable style, as well as its ability to age nicely in oak developing a rich flavor, Merlot wine is one of the most popular across the country.
-
Sauvignon Blanc (White)
A popular white grape, Sauvignon Blanc has a tendency to produce wines with noticeable acidity and "green flavors" of grass, green bell peppers and nettles with some tropical fruit (such as passion fruit) and floral (such as elderflower) notes. It’s often described as crisp, elegant, and fresh by wine enthusiasts and is a popular white wine to pair food with.
-
Petite Arvine (White)
Petite Arvine is a white grape variety grown mainly in Valais, Switzerland and Italy's Valle d'Aosta. The wine is defined by bracing acidity and grapefruit aromas. It often shows a touch of salty minerality on the palate. Styles for this wine range from dry to lusciously sweet, and many Petite Arvine wines can benefit from short-term cellaring.
-
Gewurztraminer (White)
A pink-skinned grape variety that produces some of the world's most distinctive aromatic wines. Its perfumed style is somewhat polarizing; fans adore its intense floral scent and sweet-spice flavors, while detractors lament its low acidity and lack of subtlety. On the palate it is marked by its full texture, low acidity, stonefruit (mango, peach and apricot) and spicy (ginger and cinnamon) flavors.
